Audition Repertoire List for Vocal and Instrumental Performance Workshop

Vocal:

3 pieces to be prepared

It should be noted that chosen audition repertoire ought to display the candidate’s technical and musical assets as well as give the auditioning panel a clear representation of the singer’s tessitura.

  • 1 aria antica or aria/song by Mozart or Händel
  • 1 opera or oratorio aria
  • 1 song or aria of choice

Instrumental:

It should be noted that chosen audition repertoire ought to display the candidate’s technical and musical assets.

Piano:

3 pieces to be prepared
One piece from group A, one piece from group B, and one piece of your
choice from group C or D.

  • Group A:
    • Work of Joh. Seb. Bach (two contrasting movements)
    • Sonata by Scarlatti
    • Suite of G. F. Händel (two contrasting movements)
  • Group B:
    • Sonata by W. A. Mozart (first movement and slow movement)
    • Sonata by L. v. Beethoven (first movement and slow movement)
    • Sonata by J. Haydn (first movement and slow movement)
  • Group C:
    • Work of the romantic period
  • Group D:
    • Work of the post-romantic period

Harpsichord:

3 pieces to be prepared

  • Two contrasting movements from a work by J. S. Bach (this includes a Prelude and Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier)
  • A toccata by Frescobaldi or Froberger
  • Two contrasting movements from the French clavecin school (L. Couperin, F. Couperin, d’Anglebert, Rameau, etc.)

All strings:

3 pieces to be prepared

  • 1 piece from the 17th century (e.g.: Bach Sonatas, Suites, Partitas); two contrasting movements (fast and slow)
  • 1 Caprice by N. Paganini or any other study, showing your technical level
  • 1 piece of your choice from the romantic or modern period

Harp:

2 pieces to be prepared

  • G. F. Händel: concerto in Bflat Major (first and second movement) and
  • One contrasting piece of your own choice preferably from a different time period

Guitar:

2 pieces to be prepared
Please choose one piece from the list and one contrasting piece of your
own choice preferably from a different time period:

  • F. Sor: one etude from op. 29/5 or op. 6/12 or op. 6/12 or op. 29/1
  • Joh. Seb. Bach: Suite in E Minor, BWV 996 (Allemande)
  • Joh. Seb. Bach: Suite in C Minor, BWV 997 (Gigue and Double)

All Brass instruments:

2 pieces to be prepared for all brass instruments

Trumpet:

Joseph Haydn: Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major, Hob VIIe:1 (1st and 2nd
movement)
and one contrasting piece of your choice preferably from a different time
period

Horn:

Richard Strauss: Horn Concerto No. 1, E-flat Major, op. 11 (1st and 2nd
movement)
and one contrasting piece of your choice preferably from a different time
period

Trombone:

Ferdinand David: Concertino for Trombone, E Flat, Op. 4 (1st and 2nd
movement)
and one contrasting piece of your own choice preferably from a different
time period
(Bass Trombonists may perform an original composition for bass
trombone of their choice as an alternative to David)

Tuba:

Ralph Vaughn-Williams: Tuba Concerto in F minor (1st and 2nd movement)
and one contrasting piece of your own choice

All Woodwind Instruments:

2 pieces to be prepared for all woodwind instruments
Please choose one piece (two movements as stated below) from the list
and one contrasting piece of your own choice preferably from a different
time period.

Flute:

  • Joh. Seb. Bach: Partita in A Minor, BWV 1013 (Allemande and Sarabande or Corrente and Sarabande or Sarabande and Bourée Anglaise)
  • W. A. Mozart: Concerto in G Major, KV 313 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • W. A. Mozart: Concerto in D Major, KV 314 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • C. Stamitz: Concerto in G Major (1st and 2nd movement)
  • F. Devienne: Concerto Nr. 7 in E Minor (1st and 2nd movement)

Oboe:

  • W. A. Mozart: Concerto in C Major, KV 314 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • Concerto by A. Vivaldi or T. Albinoni (1st and 2nd movement)

Clarinet:

  • W.A. Mozart: Concerto in A Major, KV 662 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • L. Spohr: 1st and 2nd movement from any of the concertos
  • C. M. v. Weber: Concerto in F Minor, op. 73 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • C. M. v. Weber: Concerto in Eflat Major, op. 74 (1st and 2nd movement)

Bassoon:

  • W. A. Mozart: Concerto in Bflat Major, KV 191 (1st and 2nd movement)
  • Any concerto by A. Vivaldi: (1st and 2nd movement)
